Localturnon Artist of the Week - SAMIR JANA (Kolkata) Posted by localturnon Get link Facebook Twitter Pinterest Email Other Apps #localturnon: What is the history to your taking up Music? How did it come into being, your journey? #SamirJana: I was born in a village. From my childhood I used to listen to radio and I only preferred to listen classical music. Nobody in my house had interest in music. But I felt intoxicated with music. When I was in class IX, I left my house to come to Kolkata. I still wonder how music had become an important part of my life and continues to do so. #localturnon: So who are your favourites/ Icons/ Role Models in the field of music? #SamirJana: I am extremely fortunate that I came in contact with seven wise GURUS . But I always follow the path of two great maestros in music – Pandit SHRIKANT BAKRE and Ustad AMIR KHAN. #localturnon: How do rejuvenate your creative insights / get the adrenalin going? #SamirJana: I always try to give life to any Raga by practising the same repeatedly. #localturnon: Does your Music carry a message / a theme or a story? If so can you share more on it? #SamirJana: It is not a message as such but I appeal to everyone to embrace music . And it is my earnest advice to learn music properly. #localturnon: Of all the performances you’ve given, which is your favourite one and why? #SamirJana: So far my best performance was on 28th August, 2016 when I presented raga MEGH and it gave me immense pleasure. But it is only possible when my co-artistes also contribute in the same way as it is expected from them. #localturnon: Do you have any interesting fan stories to tell? #SamirJana: There are many interesting stories, Yes! Infact many years ago in a programme at the start of concert the tabla player did not play anything except giving only ‘SOM’. He left the place only after playing it for three times. #localturnon: Of all the music you’ve created, which is your favourite one and why? #SamirJana: I don’t create raga when the Great men in music had already done it. I only try to work on their created pieces in music #localturnon: Can you share about some funny incident that happened on-stage / during performance / with you or the other artists / stage members? #SamirJana: There are many funny things to share. I can remember one incident. In a programme when I was about to start singing, I told the table player that would be singing JHUMRA, but quiet unexpectedly he was found nowhere after he had heard this. (Smiling) #localturnon: How has the musical journey been so far for you and what are you looking forward to now? #SamirJana: From my early musical life, I have been trying to make my tune and the notes more perfect, but I have not been yet able to achieve it. I am still looking forward to find it in the future. #localturnon: Do you have any words of advice for youngsters who are thinking of getting into this line? #SamirJana: My humble and earnest request to young learners that they should perform on the stage only after learning and practising it properly.
